In reply to Jennifer Reinhofer. Yes, it was updated since too much water content in a tincture can cause it to grow mold and microbes. The updated version has a safer alcohol content to better preserve the tincture.

In reply to Jessica. I used this recipe years ago to make a chamomile tincture. I could swear that I used boiling water in the chamomile before adding the vodka. Was this recipe changed?

Does the chamomile need to be fully
covered by the alcohol so the dried flowers don’t mold? Mine float and I’m not sure how to weigh them down. Thanks

In reply to Kymberlie. You can start with 1 teaspoon and then take more if needed after an hour or so. Chamomile is a very gentle herb so there's a larger safety window.

Hi! I am wondering, if I turn all my dried chamomile into tincture to preserve it, can I use the tincture in other recipes somehow? For instance the sleep tincture and for making the cough syrup recipe on your page? Just wondering if there is a way to used tinctures instead of dried herbs for some recipes so that I can store my herbs longer that way. Thanks.

What is the purpose of the boiling water? Most of the tincture recipes I’ve read just just alcohol out glycerine.

I was told by a herbal company that sells herbs & makes tinctures that you can put the tincture you need into a bit of hot water, then let it sit a few minutes to cool so the alcohol evaporates off, making it just fine for even my dog & they use a stronger alcohol than vodka.

How long is the tincture good for once it’s all finished? I’ve had it finished for about 6 weeks and I’ve been using it , but I wonder how long I can keep it before it’s no longer good ?

I Think its just as much the alcohol you are giving the kids as it is the hearb. There are other things you Can use to pull out the active compnents which is more baybe friendly than alcohol
