I love salads, and my apple and walnut tuna salad is one of my favorites!

Tuna Salad Tip

I like making this ahead of time and storing it in the bottom of a quart size mason jar. Then, I fill the jar with lettuce or spinach and cap tightly. When stored in the fridge, this will last 4-5 days.

I make several of these ahead of time and store in the fridge for quick lunches or dinners on busy days. Since tuna is relatively inexpensive, this is a great budget-friendly meal idea for our family and it is kid approved in our house.

If you aren’t a tuna salad fan, these ready-to-go mason jar salads can also be done with chicken salad or most other salad recipes, like these:

The key is to put the protein and dressings at the bottom of the jar and the lettuce and vegetables at the top. When ready to use, just shake the jar to coat everything and dump onto a  plate or eat out of the jar.

Looks like my and my mother’s recipe for years ! Sometimes we switch the tuna out for broccoli; not sure why BUT either way, with the combo of “apples, walnuts, (raisins,) celery” we always knew it as Waldorf Salad! checking further, back in the late 1800s it was only the combo “Waldorf ” without tuna or broccoli. Has been a mainstay for a fast healthy meal and likely always will!

This was delicious. I used light Miracle Whip instead of mayo, but otherwise kept it the same. Yum!

I’ve been avoiding tuna because they all contain soy in the vegetable broth base.  I don’t know if it’s a significant amount, but it’s most likely gmo soy.  Even the tuna in spring water has it.

Oh my goodness! I just had this for lunch! It was awesome. So much more tasty than tuna and mayo on bread! Thank you! This will be a new staple lunch at my house! 🙂
